Biography:

Tristan is a Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist in the world-renowned cardiac unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. He is fully trained in advanced imaging including echocardiography and sees patients from newborns to young adulthood. Tristan is confident in managing a wide range of heart problems in children, including heart murmurs, chest pain, palpitations, and fainting. His philosophy is having a family-centric approach, understanding the needs of both the child and parents, and his clear and empathetic communication is key to his practice. Having young twins himself, he understands the anxiety and stress that comes with being a parent and needing medical care, and for this reason he has been instrumental in setting up the cardiology service at The Vesey Private Hospital.Tristan is passionate about sport, exercise, and cardiac rehabilitation, and has recently finished an MSc in Sport Cardiology from StGeorge’s University London. He can undertake cardiovascular screening to detect potential causes of sudden cardiac death in athletic individuals, young athletes and those involved in competitive sport. With his expertise in paediatric sport cardiology, Tristan has recently been appointed to the English Football Association’s Sport Cardiology Expert Panel.

Consultation and Investigations of the Heart
During the consultation, Tristan will undertake a detailed history and cardiovascular examination. Your child’s height, weight, blood pressure and oxygen saturations will be checked. For most patients, Tristan will also perform a 12-lead Electrocardiogram (ECG) to assess the rhythm and electrical activity of the heart, and an ultrasound (Echocardiogram) to assess the structure and function of the heart.

Clinical Research and Publications
Tristan has an active research interest, with several international presentations and publications in peer-reviewed journals covering both congenital and acquired heart disease. This included being the author of one of the first articles to be published internationally on “Multi-system Inflammatory syndrome in children associated with COVID (MIS-C/PIMS-TS)” looking at short-term cardiac outcomes, which has been cited 325 times.
