About Justin Chu Fertility

I am an IVF Consultant based in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham who wants fertility patients to get the best possible care. I am also the clinical lead of the Tommy's Recurrent Miscarriage Service. My NHS work is at the Birmingham Women's Hospital in Edgbaston.

Infertility and miscarriage are hugely emotive areas of medicine. Recognising the frustrations and anxieties that infertility and miscarriage can cause, I want to provide the opportunity for patients to come and see me promptly to ask questions and access assessment and treatment.

If you are tired of trawling through information and patient forums and want to speak to someone who helps people with infertility and recurrent miscarriage everyday then get in touch using the 'contact me section' below.

About Me

I attended the University of Birmingham for my undergraduate medical and surgical training between 2001 and 2006. I started my obstetrics and gynaecology training in the West Midlands in 2009.

My registrar training started in 2011 at the Birmingham Women’s Hospital. After this year of training I completed an out of programme experience as a teaching fellow at the Birmingham Women’s Hospital, coordinating and leading undergraduate obstetrics and gynaecology teaching to final year undergraduate medical students at the University of Birmingham.

Subsequently, I was awarded a Springboard Research Fellowship to commence my PhD in 2013. My research centred around embryo implantation in IVF.  In 2015, I was appointed as an academic clinical lecturer at the University of Birmingham where I was successfully awarded a NIHR HTA grant to conduct the MIFEMISO miscarriage trial. This work was subsequently published in the Lancet Journal in 2020.

I started my Sub-specialty training in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery from 2018 to 2020 and was awarded an NHS Consultant post in November 2020 at the Birmingham Women's Hospital. Currently, I lead the male fertility and recurrent miscarriage services.

I remain research active with interests in embryo implantation, recurrent miscarriage, male fertility and fertility education. I am proud to have published over 40 peer reviewed research articles and book chapters.

I am an an accredited Sub-Specialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery and am the deputy chair of the UK Fertility Education Initiative Specialist Interest Group at the British Fertility Society and also sit on the Specialist Interest Group for Andrology for both the British Fertility Society and UK Endocrine Society.
